There has been an extensive research operation regarding the possibility of installing
a Suzuki Hayabusa engine. In order to mount it a special gearbox sample is ordered to
assist in this investigation. If this gearbox does not bring a solution than the only
option left is to devide (by sawing) the back of the carver and extend it. This in order to create
more room to install the Suzuki engine. Stay tuned! |

I have decided I still want more power than is possible with this engine. After
an extensive search and visiting zcars in the UK I decided to remove the engine
and deliver the carver to them. The assignment is to put in as much power as is
technically possible. Also some changes to the chassis need to be done in order
to withstand the expected higher topspeeds. |

After an intensive discussion with Japen regarding the measurment values it was
concluded that the supplied data was too poor to make safe changes. They suggested
to use another type of Ecu with more capabilities and power, however this would
result in building the software from scratch which would involve significant cost.
Adding the Greddy would result in quit some cost addition too and secondly there
is a room problem to be resolved which would add signicant engineering cost
too. So it was decided to leave it as is in this stage. |

Oct 21, 2008 |
After a 4 hour session on Monday playing around with the Greddy we have optimized
the AFR under boost conditions. See Results fase 2->Optimization. where
we performed a full-throttle run.
The powerband at midrange rpm has been drastically improved. This effect is due
to the fact that AFR is much closer to the optimum. The Greddy datalog and
injector maps have been sent to Japan to serve the engineer in altering the software.
Now we have to wait on the modified software to resume testing. |

Today we have an appointment at the SpeedCentre at Geldermalsen. We will gonna try
to optimize the tuning using the Greddy ECU in series with the standard ECU. These
findings will be sent to Japan where the engineers can reprogram the ECU using the
data we will supply. As soon as we will receive modified software we will retest
it to verify it is correct. Because an AFR meter is installed I can also test various
practival driving conditions. Driving along with the Greddy is not doable because
of the huge amount of cabling that is needed. |

The AFR meter is installed, and after an hour of test driving it seems that at low
power everything is ok. This explains why with stationary speeds up to 100km/h the
Carvers fuel efficiency is excellent, but as soon as the turbo hits 0 bar and higher
the engine is running far too rich. A situation that a standard carver suffers from
too. When measuring the standard carver it already showed it was running very rich
when running full throttle. So here is space for improvement. We also have tested
if the Greddy was operational, after fixing some wire problems we could read watertemp,
AFR, Airflow(1/2), throttle position and injectiontiming. So we are ready for measurement
and optimizing. |

The last couple of months we have just driven around with the Carver enjoying driving
it. It was also a kind of reliability and endurance test. No technical problems
regarding the tuning have come up. All stuff for finetuning the ECU are in
house. At the moment we are installing an AFR meter to assist in finetuning. Tomorrow
night the Greddy will be tested to verify we are ready for starting the finetuning
at the powermeasurement equipment in Geldermalsen. We also will make an appointment
for this tomorrow. |

But.. Power measurement also shows the air/fuel ratio is far too rich. This means
there should be more power available if this is correct. But this also implies we
need to install a Greddy to be able to measure what is going on. To install a Greddy
we need a cableset which we will have to order in Japan. Oops a lot of delivery
time involved... To be continued. |

Executed a power measurement on the carver. We have got nice results with a fair 107 bph.
I have taken a video on this measurement. A link to this measurement can be found elsewhere on this site.

May 30, 2008 |
Finally I received the production type exhaust. The engine runs very neat and smoothly
upto 9000tpm. At that high rev the limiter comes into action and stops the fun.
Soon I will put results on this site on how the new specs look like. |

Increased the turbo pressure to 1.3 bar, enjoying the full potential of the turbo. Amazing! Adjusted the clutch-cilinder because I discovered some slipping, which would blow out the clutch at shortterm.
Now I have to wait for the new exhaust to perform the power measurements.

Mar 1, 2008 |
Prototype 2 brought to exhaustcompany for measurements regarding first production run.
We agreed to the making of a new model produced especially for this new turbokit, with more silencing and
a different endpipe model. So the difference between a standard and the special turbo version of the carver will be visible.

Feb 29, 2008 |
Mounted Protoype 1 exhaust again. Ugly still, but it now produces a nice sound. |
|
Feb 23, 2008 |
Mounting of the new turbo kit. The turbo needs a 200km "adjustment" period, so initially the pressure is 0.9bar.
The difference in engine characteristics already is significant, however it produces to much noise! |
|
Jan 24, 2008 |
Performed a power measurement with the new exhaust and air filter |
|
Jan 18, 2008 |
The production exhaust has been delivered and has been mounted. Good looking and
a nice sound! |
|
Jan 12, 2008 |
Mounted the K&N filter with the new mounting unit. This results in a nice racy
sound when up-shifting. Typical sound for turbo-charged engines. Realy enhances
user experience when driving. Still waiting for the new exhaust so that we can measure
power of the new air-intake and exhaust. |
|
Jan 2, 2008 |
Due to winter conditions and salted roads the project is somewhat on hold as I don't
want to drive the carver on salty roads. In the meantime I'm waiting for prototype
2 of the carver exhaust. |
